Burglary Prevention Advice

Recently there has been a rise in burglaries throughout the area. The offenders have been gaining access to the property by the front door, especially houses with plastic doors.

To assist you in helping to prevent yourselves from becoming victims Mark Montgomery, Crime Prevention Officer, has the following advice:

When locking your door at night ensure you use the key as well as engaging the door bolts. Never leave your house & car keys on view or near the letterbox. Remember to keep valuables such as wallets, purses & mobile phones out of sight. Openly marking your property reduces its desirability to offenders.

As nights draw in remember it’s the simple things that can count. Close curtains before switching on lights. If you don’t then the villain can have a good view as to what happens in your house and also what ‘goodies’ you have on display. This is very important on the run up to Christmas – open curtain help the villain to fill their Christmas list of who to burgle.

After Christmas think before disposing of your present’s wrappings. Not only can they be recycled but also by leaving them out with the rubbish you help the villain to plan the ‘shopping list’ of the top houses to burgle, as they now know what you got for Christmas.
